Dal Palak | A Creamy and Nutritious Indian Curry
Dal palak is a popular Indian curry made with lentils and spinach. It is a creamy and nutritious dish that is perfect for vegetarians and vegans.

Ingredients:
- 1 cup urad dal
- 1/2 cup spinach leaves, washed and chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch piece ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
Instructions:
1. Wash the lentils: Rinse the Urad dal under cold water until the water runs clear.2. Sauté the onions: Heat the oil in a pressure cooker over medium heat.
Add the onions and cook until softened.
3. Add the spices: Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and turmeric powder. Stir well to combine.
4. Add the lentils: Add the washed urad dal and stir to coat with the spices.
5. Add the water: Add 4 cups of water and bring to a boil.
6. Pressure cook: Close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook for 20-25 minutes, or until the lentils
are soft.
7.Add the spinach: Once the pressure is released, add the chopped spinach leaves and cook for a few minutes, or until the spinach is wilted.
8. Blend: Blend the dal palak until smooth.
You can add a little water if the dal is too thick.
9. Season and serve: Season with salt to taste and serve hot.
Tips:
- For a richer flavor, you can add a few tablespoons of ghee to the dal palak before serving.
- If you don't have a pressure cooker, you can cook the lentils in a regular pot over medium heat for 30-45 minutes, or until they are soft.
- To make the dal palak even more creamy, you can add a few tablespoons of cream or milk.
