1.Soak the dal and rice: In a bowl, combine the urad dal and rice. 

Add water and soak for 4-5 hours, or overnight.




2.Grind the batter: Drain the water and grind the dal and rice in a blender until smooth.
 Add the salt and oil and grind for another minute.





3.Ferment the batter: Pour the batter into a bowl and cover with a damp cloth. 
Let it ferment in a warm place for 8-10 hours.

4.Cook the Appe: Heat the Appe pan over medium heat. 
Pour a small amount of batter into each well. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the Appe are golden brown.





5.Serve: Serve the appe hot with sambar and coconut chutney.



Tips:
  • If the batter is too thick, add a little water.
  • If the batter is too thin, add a little more rice.
  • You can add chopped onions, cilantro, or curry leaves to the batter for added flavor.
